Don't forget you can win a signed copy of Fear The Dark!
I was truly glad that Patricia agreed to do this.......I have been very lucky so far in that most of the Authors I have asked have said yes! So I truly hope you enjoy her.
Tigris: What inspired you to become a writer?
Patricia: I have a dark imagination—it’s wild sometimes. I always have. From early on, I was a daydreamer at heart and a storyteller. In high school, I took some creative writing courses and decided then that I would love to get some of my work published someday.
Tigris: Who were some of your favorite authors when you were a kid?
Patricia: My first favorite author that I can recall is Harold Robbins. I found his work, specifically the one entitled THE BETSY, and read it. I was hooked. So I can’t say I read a lot as a child. I picked up reading in high school.
Tigirs: Favorite Childhood Book?
Patricia: THERE WAS AN OLD WOMAN. I have it as a pop-up book
Tigris: Favorite Childhood Memory?
Patricia: Spending time at my Aunt Mary’s house. I loved getting together with my cousins. One time I spent the night and I had to help hoe beans. I was a city girl. I learned how to cheat and bury the weeds with my shoes. They came back the next day, but me and my cousin (who I showed my trick to) got our rows done first.
Tigris: Favorite Holiday?
Patricia: Christmas.
Tigris: What does your daily schedule consist of?
Patricia: I don’t really have a daily schedule. I need one! About the only consistent thing is getting out of bed at 7 am. I don’t even need an alarm clock. I just wake up. I work fulltime besides writing, so I have to plan my day around the job. I need to get myself in a better routine for writing, though. I need to discipline myself.
Tigris: Out of all the heroines in your books was there one that either you identified with, or a likeness to someone you've met or know? (hope that one makes sense):)
Patricia: I have made a likeness or two along the way. In my historical romance, LAWFULLY YOURS, it was definitely modeled after one of my cousins (the one I showed how to hoe beans). KISS OF DECEIT was likely closest to what I would be like or identify with. I always wanted to be a cop. But I guess that was my brother’s vocation, not mine.
Tigris: Alpha Male or Sensitive Male?
Patricia: Hands down: Alpha. No question.
Tigris: How do you come up with your stories? Is there a process?
Patricia: When starting a new book, keep in mind I normally write dark, I ask myself ‘what is my killer doing?’ Once I have him figured out, I add in the main characters and how the killer affects them, figure out what drives and motivates them and why they are not good for each other. Once I get the main idea laid out, I jump in with both feet. Start at A and go to Z. I don’t jump around with scenes. I may have scenes in my head that are there from the get go, but it’s like a reward when I reach them. One of my favorite scenes was in EYES OF BETRAYAL when Villain goes looking for the Doc. When he finds her at a convention to tell her something pretty important, she treats him poorly, acts like she doesn’t know him. What happens next—you’ll have to read. Right now I am working on a new plot that Lara Adrian suggested I take a stab at (thanks, Lara!) and will start up soon. It will be a whole new genre for me, so we’ll see. I’m hoping I can pull it off
Tigris: What is in your TBR pile?
Patricia: I have more books than I will ever read on my shelves. I am a book addict. I have some Anne Stuart, Lori Foster, Karen Rose, Leanne Banks, Joann Ross…I could go on and on. But a definite read…Lara Adrian’s SHADES OF MIDNIGHT comes out very soon. I just bought the new Sony Reader, so I am sure my reading list is going to grow by leaps and bounds! I love that thing.
Tigris: What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Patricia: Never give up and definitely grow a strong backbone. This industry is full of rejections and if someone is willing to give you advice on your work…don’t pout because it’s your baby and you worked hard on it. Look at it objectively. You might stand to learn something from someone. I have taken all the critiques I have gotten in the past and used them to grow as a writer. I’m not saying you have to take everything as fact—take what you agree with, apply it to your writing and grow. Never stop learning the craft.
Tigris: Favorite place to relax?
Patricia: I would say a beach with a drink in my hand, sitting on a lounge and watching the waves come it—but I haven’t done that yet. So at home…I love being with my family and friends.
Tigris: Any Charitable Organizations you donate too?
Patricia: We have a home here for the severely mentally handicap called The Filling Home of Mercy. My soon-to-be daughter-in-law is a supervisor there. The residents are wonderful and so are the people that work there.
Tigris: Favorite Saying?
Patricia: Wow, I had trouble with this one. I think I’m like a sponge and whatever is the popular ‘saying,’ I pick up. But I guess—one thing I still say to my family—which is annoying as all get out is ‘Whatever.’
Tigris: Favorite Girly thing you can't live without?
Patricia: Chocolate and wine. And Chic Flicks! I LOVE chick flicks!
Tigris: What did you do after your first book was sold?
Patricia: Cried…no, actually that was after one of my awards when I thought ‘I’ll never get this high again.’ I placed HM next to J.D. Robb. A few years later I placed first over Linda Howard…I would have to say they are the high points of my career so far. They were probably both going: ‘Who the heck is Patricia Rasey? I never heard of her.’ LOL But after I received confirmation the publisher wanted to buy my first book, I called everyone I knew. I could hardly contain my excitement. I think I pinched myself, too.
Tigris: Are you working on anything now?
Patricia: I actually have three things I am currently working on. The one project I mentioned that Lara Adrian and I spoke about—she came up with a great paranormal idea I can really bite into. And I am working on a sequel to FAÇADE and LOVE YOU TO PIECES entitled CHARRED REMAINS. Last—I am working on a short paranormal story that I may or may not do anything with. But it’s been a blast to write so far. If nothing else, I may throw it on my website as a freebee story.
Tigris: If you could eat lunch with one of your characters who would it be and why?
Patricia: Egan ‘Villain’ Tate from EYES OF BETRAYAL comes to mind first. He was my outlaw MC (motorcycle club) member. I am fascinated with bikers and yes, even the gangs. I did a lot of research on them. Standing on a lookout in New Hampshire, my husband is looking at the beautiful scenery taking pictures and I’m checking out a group of bikers with patches. I love bad boys. But can’t I have lunch with all my men?
Tigris: How do you research for your books?
Patricia: I am an avid researcher. Depending on what I am writing, I read a lot and research on the net. I also will contact professionals in the field and ask questions I can’t find the answer to. I had an incident in FAÇADE that every professional I asked gave me the answer, ‘Not me.’ That kind of became a joke in the book as to who was going to dig up this body.
Tigris: What inspires you?
Patricia: Life. I love experiencing life and people. You never know what may trip my fancy and wind up in a book. We have a camp ground that we frequent all summer, and one of our fellow campers said something that wound up being the opening line in CHARRED REMAINS. So you never know what might inspire the muse. Also other writers. Nothing like chatting about the craft to inspire you to keep going. Even in the lowest points when you think you might give up.
Tigris: I really enjoyed interviewing Patricia she is totally down to earth and gives back really good feedback, something all of us can look at and actually understand. Thanks again so much and don't forget to visit her website: http;//patriciarasey.com you truly want to pick up her books! Looking forward to her new projects as well.

Joan Woods says...
Patricia, who has the final say in the cover and title of your books?
Happy Thanksgiving.
Terry Cover says...
Supposed to ask a question, Okay. How come you don't pick me as a winner in your contests.? Is it because I am to old to keep up with you young things? So that is two question , straight down to brass tacks, what everyone else wants to ask but would rather butter you up. You are a great a smooth rider though.

What was your favorite book when you were younger? Did it change as you got older?
One of my favorite books has stayed consistently "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" by CS Lewis. Ever since my aunt gave it to me when I was 8, I have had to pick it up and read again every once in a while.

Are there any other genres that you're interested in writing?

Harold Robins was one of my first authors that I started collecting all his books (that and Stephen King). And I too am a book addict and have to live pretty much forever lol. I love a variety in my reading from historical to just starting to read paranormals. I happen to be a reader that doesn't have to have HEA so dark is okay with me. Great interview!

Hi Patricia,
Loved your interview answers. While reading them I felt like I was listening to you speak rather than just reading from a page. Honestly, and I apologize for this, I haven't had a chance to read any of your books yet!! I recently started following you on Twitter after Lara Adrian mentioned your name and you are definitely on my list of authors TBR. I've checked out your website several times and look forward to reading your books.
