I'm going to be completely honest about this book because, hey, its not fair to not give my own thoughts and view on this book... Let me start off by saying that this was a different kind of read for me and I believe that by reading this book it has opened up a new door for me. So lets jump right into shall we. First I am going to give you a little snippet of my favorite part of this book and then a quote and then dig into this story without giving away the good meat of it. (I don't want to spoil this for others you have to read it for yourself and I hope that this review will wet your appetite and make you pick up this book.)

Snippet:
She awakened to the bold strains of Beethoven's Ode to Joy-and thought that the ringtone for her alarm was absolutely perfect.
She didn't want to leave his arms. There were no nightmares here, no gaping voids between them. All her doubts were swept away.
But she couldn't stay. She sat up and swung her legs off the bed, then smiled when Luke's hand reached out to stroke her back. "I have to go," she said. "I have a meeting this morning."
" You'll come back?"
She wanted desperately to say yes. Instead, she twisted around to look at him. "Will you kill again?"
"Sara-"
She held up a hand. "You wanted us to be clear, Luke. For me to understand it all." She watched him stiffen. "I know the way the world works, Luke. I know you have powerful Alliance connections and I can put the pieces together. So tell me now. If your asked to step in-if you're asked to kill-will you go? Will you answer that call?"
She saw the change in him instantly, the hardening of his features, the slight downturn of his mouth. "Of course," he said. And she knew then that in the cold light of day, nothing between them hand changed.
Favorite Quote: Luke: There was no ulterior motive between us. I saw you in the bar. You pleased me, and I wanted you. Hungered for you even as I do now. I took only what you were willing to give.
Sara Constantine is a prosecutor, she smart and savvy and has all the things a great heroine needs to work her magic. She's just won a high profiled case and has begun another when her boss pulls her off the case she is currently working and tells her you've been promoted... Of course she has no idea exactly what she's been promoted to. Only that she is now an employee of Division 6 who uses the cover Homeland Security. Little does she know is that she is about to enter a whole new world and discover... Hell yeah there are things that go bump in the night. Sara takes this all in with accessing strides only to find out that on her first day she is thrust into a high profile case... All at once she learns two things... First her father who was brutally murdered in front of her when she was a child was murdered by a Vampire! Second the man she is prosecuting turns out to be none other than the sexy man she made passionate love with only a few days prior and he's a Vampire.
Luscious Dragos is a vampire and he's hot and sexy and complete with his own set of skeletons in the closet. He's been arrested by Division 6 for murder and he doesn't really care because ladies and gents this bad boy has a plan.. He had no intention of ending up with Division 6 and he can't seem to get the beautiful and alluring Sara Constantine out of his mind. She calms his daemon and he had planned to see her more of her until things got botched and now here he sits waiting to be interviewed by Bosch the leader of Division 6. Only when the door opens its not just Bosch its the sexy ass attorney he slept with and who the hell knew she was working the PEC (Preternatural Enforcement Coalition)... Things just got a little bit more interesting for all parties included...
Okay so as you can see these two are in a definite pickle... This book has everything from the law abiding to the un-law abiding.. It has twist and turns and all the while there are different back stories playing into the big picture.. Mystery, Drama, Intrigue, Betrayal Oh my! And of course my favorite there is ROMANCE. There are even two smart ass detectives.. One Tucker who is a human with special gifts and the other Doyle who is not human... There is a pretty boy vampire advocate and all... I mean you get a taste of Law in Order, a little bit of CSI in a brutal dosage of thank you come again!
I'm very interested in knowing how these characters will develop as we get further into the series.. I want to know all about Nicholas and Detective Doyle as well.
Like I said it was different for me but it was a read that I will definitely visit again and again... Just found another author who I would love to interview so J.K Beck if your out there say you will do a Q&A with me!
I give this book my 5 stiletto's Jimmy Choo's because anything else would just be Payless.. and hey I'm not knocking the BOGO because I too have to shop there but I love my Jimmy Choo's!
Tigris: How did you come up with the series The Shadow Keepers?
JK: Oh, I wish I had a better answer for that question, because it's one that I get a lot! Basically, it was one of those Reese's Peanut Butter Cup moments--wherein I was randomly thinking about ideas for paranormal romance stories, and that butted up against my background as an attorney. The ideas crashed together, and--poof--the series was born!
Tigris: They Dynamics of Luke and Sara are amazing the prosecutor and the prosecutee... How did the relationship between the two unfold? Where there any other scenario that could have transpired besides the obivious HEA?
JK: Actually, that's one of the reasons that I think Luke and Sara are such a compelling couple--Sara obviously has to deal with her strong belief in the judicial system and in the concept of right and wrong. She's very much a black and white person in terms of justice, wherein Luke is much more willing to see shades of gray. And without giving away too much of the story--considering what he does and who he is, they could have easily failed to mesh if Sara was unable to wrap her mind around and deal with his way of looking at the world. Fortunately for them, her love for and belief in him helped color her perceptions. She hasn't fundamentally altered her world view at the end of the book, but she's open enough to realize that things aren't always what they seem and that there can be more than one manifestation of justice.
Tigris: The story itself is amazing, I really feel like it was a little bit of CIS mixed in with a lot of NY Undercover. How did you come up with Dectective Doyle? Can I ask, what is he? Are we going to hear more about him? How about Nicholas?
JK: I was talking to a Hollywood manager about the series not long ago, and he called it Law & Order meets Men In Black, but without the wackiness--and yeah, I think that's a pretty good description! As for Detective Doyle, he was a joy...one of those characters who walked onto the page full force, with all of his abrasiveness and issues and just commanded the scenes. I love him--and he does get his own book! He's currently scheduled for book 6 (tentatively titled WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS). He's a para-daemon with a human mother--and let's just say that his childhood was not an easy or pleasant one....
And yes! Nicholas gets his own book next month in WHEN WICKED CRAVES
Tigris: Was the one part of the story or any of the series that you struggled with?
JK: Overwriting!!! I cut probably 200 pages from the manuscript of BLOOD, most all of it procedural aspects. They had to be written, of course, so that *I* understood the legal workings of the world, but ultimately they slowed down both the pacing and the romance.
Tigris: What do we have to look forward to? What can we expect to see in the future?
JK: I'm working on an e-novella right now that will fill the gap before the next three books come out. The next three (no idea on dates yet) are WHEN PASSION LIES, WHEN DANGER HUNGERS, and WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS
Tigris: Alpha male or Beta male
JK: real life: beta
fiction: alpha ![]()
Tigris: Favorite T.V Show
JK: Oh, man, that's hard. Right now, it's Vampire Diaries, with Mad Men running a close second.
Tigris: Favorite Author
JK: WAY too many! If I HAVE to pick, probably either Ken Follett or Madeline L'Engle. But please don't make me pick!!!
Tigris: What does a writing day consist of for you?
JK: Lately, a lot of insanity (we just moved, and it's been months of chaos). On a "normal" day, though, I get up and do some writing, then do school with the kids (I homeschool). While they're occupied, I try to take care of emails, but usually end up on Twitter or Facebook. Then when school is done and they play, I try to write until my husband gets home. Then family time, then I write late into the evenings. I'm naturally a night owl, so this is not a bad thing. I aspire to take weekends off, but it never seems to work out that way!
Tigris: Does the series end with Wicked?
JK: Nope!!! See above - 3 more in the works. Well, 3.25, I guess with the e-book!
Thanks for having me! Great interview!!!
JK
