I had the great pleasure of doing a Q & A with Gena she was absolutely fabulous! Tigris <3's Gena!
There is just so much in this interview and you get a chance to see what happens when two character's from two different books meet up and have a little tête à tête... You have to read to see who it is... Don't forget to leave a comment! We do so love to hear your thoughts!
Tigris: Gena, you have at least 5 different series that I know of off hand along with some awesome stand alone titles. How do you manage it?
Gena: I’m not sure I’d calling it “managing” LOL Life inside my head is pure craziness, like a huge, never ending Christmas party. Yes, there are drunk people in my head. There’s yelling, hooking up, breaking up, meaningful conversations and flat out ridiculous conversations. If I’m not daydreaming, I’m writing, and if I’m not writing, I’m daydreaming. The two play off each other, and I write whatever story/character is most demanding my daydream attention.
Tigris: Do you have internal conversations with your characters? Is there one's voice that is a constant?
Gena: Oh, absolutely I converse with my characters. They’re very real to me. Some more than others. William the Ever Randy from the Lords of the Underworld hasn’t left me alone since he appeared in The Darkest Kiss. But then, he’s narcissistic and demanding, so that makes sense. He’s also witty, sarcastic, unrepentant, a brutal predator, tender when he wants to be, and all about having a good time. He entertains me immensely, which is probably why I enable him and he sticks around.
Tigris: Are you and Kresley going to co-write a book? Am I allowed to ask, does Torin and Nix hook up? Or are we just going to continue to see little snippets here and there?
Gena: My darling Kresley! I adore that woman with my whole heart. And wow, is she talented! (Side note: if you haven’t read her, you are missing out!) Writing a book together would be a dream come true, but we write for different publishing houses so it would be difficult to pull off.
Tigris: Will there be a Novella feature the birth of Maddax and Ashlyn's twins?
Gena: I ~think~ the birth of Fire and Ice (that’s how I think of them) will happen in a full-length novel. Though it won’t be Amun’s (April 1) or Strider’s (July) story, but the one after (which will be Kane’s in 2012) But, I don’t want to rule out the possibility of a novella. Sometimes I don’t know what’s going to happen until I sit down and just dive into the story.
Tigris: How did you come up with the Alien Huntress series? The Lords of the Underworld?
Gena: It’s almost like a treasure hunt in my head as I put a series together. An idea will pop up –it’d be so cool to write about aliens living among us (Alien Huntress) and what if men opened Pandora’s box (Lords of the Underworld) – then I have to figure out how to make that idea plausible. Connecting dots, reshaping mythology, that sort of thing.
Tigris: Is there a story you have that is written but never published?
Gena: A historical, a futuristic, and a category. I tried my hand at every romance sub-genre possible. While I never want those books to see the light of day, I’m glad I wrote them. They were learning experiences and shaped me into the writer I am today.
Tigris: Do you remember your first story?
Gena: Oh, yes. I titled it Heaven’s Fury. A warrior king is sent from his planet to ours to save a woman’s adopted daughter from kidnappers. I don’t remember why he had to save her or even why her daughter was kidnapped, but I do recall that it’s a terrible, terrible book.
Tigris: What is the one thing that you cannot do without?
Gena: While I write? Coffee.
Tigris: If one of your characters from Alien Huntress -- lets say Devyn ran into Sabin, one of the Lords -- how would that conversation go? (Words have been edited to protect the innocence) *snickers* Umm none of that here just fill in the blanks!
Devyn
vs Sabin ![]()
Sabin: Dude. What the f*** kind of weapon is that?
Devyn: Are you asking about my c*** or my gun? Because I’m happy to discuss either one.
Sabin: Like I’d really ask about your gun.
Devyn: Sarcasm is an ugly look for you.
Sabin: Please. Nothing’s ugly on me.
Devyn: Whoever told you that was lying. I, however, look amazing in everything.
Sabin: I bet you’ll look even better wearing my fists.
Devyn: Wow. Anger isn’t really a good look for you either. Maybe a new haircut would help?
Sabin: Swear to gods, one more word from you, just one, and I will stab you in the jugular.
Devyn: No, praying doesn’t really help your look either. Seriously rethink the cut because --
Fighting ensues. Both men end up cut to ribbons and bleeding internally. But they head to the nearest bar, suddenly the best of friends.

Tigris: Are we going to see anymore of the Atlantis Series?
Gena: Right now, nothing is in the works. That could change, however. I just have to get a few things off my plate. The next Intertwined novel, the next Alien Huntress novel, and the next Lords of the Underworld novel. Not to mention the “non-fiction” project I’m working on with Jill Monroe called Dating the Undead.
Tigris: If you could spend the day with anyone famous --dead or alive -- who would that be and why?
Gena: This might sound really weird, but it’s hard for me to meet new people (even dead ones). I’m terribly shy, and I hardly ever leave the house. If I spent the day with anyone, I’d want it to be with someone I already know and love. In fact, sign me up for a night out with Jill Monroe, Kresley Cole, and PC Cast.
But okay, okay, if I wasn’t shy, and meeting new people wasn’t difficult, I might pick Will Farrell. That man is brilliantly funny and he makes me laugh so hard.
Tigris: Alpha Male or Beta Male.
Gena: Alpha, always!
Tigris: What is a typical writing day like for you?
Gena: When I’m working on a rough draft, I write a chapter a day, every day, until that rough draft is done. When I’m working on revisions or edits, I try to do about 50 pages a day.
Tigris: If we were to ask William from LOTU what is his favorite saying, what would that be?
TIGRIS <3's Will
Gena: Probably something along the lines of “Damn, I’m gorgeous. Aren’t I gorgeous? No need to say it. I know you’re thinking it.” I hear that at least twenty times a day from the man. That and “Tickle fight!” And no, I haven’t let him work that last one into a book yet.
Tigris: When writing Atlantis series was there any one character that was difficult to write?
Gena: Layel. He was king of the vampires, and the villain in the other Atlantis books. I didn’t want to redeem him. Not really. I wanted a woman to love him as he was, evil plots and all J That was harder to write than I expected. Maybe because, despite everything, I had to make the reader fall in love with him, too.
Tigris: Lip Gloss or Lip Stick?
Gena: Chapstick, always!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you guys enjoyed... This will be up all week and I am going to post little snippets here and there through out the week so stay tuned! Don't forget about the giveaway and also I will be adding my own little Tigris Flare to that but I won't tell till Friday! *mwah*

What a great interview! I just finished Ecstasy in Darkness. I loved it! Can't wait for the next Alien Huntress and LOTU books. Saben and Devyn conversation was too funny!
I thought I had added a reply earlier. I guess I forgot to hit post.
