KRIS COOK INTERVIEW AND GIVEAWAY!
Kris is a very passionate writer, I enjoy reading his books and look forward to many more he is also one of our Author's After Dark Author's who will be in Philly.
Tigris: Out of all the places you have lived besides Texas, what other place did you enjoy living?
Kris: Leave out Texas, Tigris? For shame. LOL! My dad was in the military when I was growing up, so I was lucky enough to live many places - California, Washington, Maine, Missouri, Illinois, Germany, and more. I love all of them for different reasons. California for the sun and beach… Washington for Mount Rainer and nature… Maine for the lobster… Illinois for the people… Germany for the being so beautiful…
Tigris: When did you first know that writing erotic romance was for you?
Kris: Shayla Black is the one who got me to take the leap into the genre. So everyone can blame her. For me, I knew this would be a lifelong pursuit after finishing my third book, Captivation. I really love that book.
Tigris: What is a typical writing day for you?
Kris: I first have to drink coffee before I become human again. Next, I read emails. Then, I read the last few paragraphs I wrote the day before to get a "lift-off" into my new pages. Finally, I start writing new words.
Tigris: Is it easier to write from the male’s perspective vs. the female’s?
Kris: Mmm… I think writers all work from their unique perspectives. Gender does play a role, but so does nationality, age, sexual orientation, education, etc… So, how can an author write about a Vampire when they clearly are not one? By applying all the experiences, knowledge, and perspectives they have… identifying the possibilities of an outcome, blending it with their imaginations - and then putting it down on the page. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. For me, I consult with many women before a book comes out. My job is to deliver a book that my readers can get lost in and enjoy.
Tigris: First Romance Novel you read?
Kris: I don't know the title, but it was a harlequin book of my mother's. Something about a witch. The title is what attracted me to it. But if you mean the first romance I remember reading as an adult, that would be Shelley Bradley's One Wicked Night. I'm also a huge fan of Lora Leigh, JR Ward, Shayla Black, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Nora Roberts, and more. The romance community (authors and readers) is so unique and supportive. I love it!
Tigris: How do you gather your research for the book, or does it all come from Kris’s World?
Kris: To answer, let me tell you a bit about my Eternally Three series. The initial concept began with me wanting to mix mythologies about immortal beings. I began with the Middle Eastern jinn. I read everything I could find about these creatures. When I was satisfied that I had what I needed, I moved onto studying angels. I'm currently writing a shapeshifter book (Primal Heat: Texas Wolf Pack 2), and I have revisited some things I'd researched before about werewolves. But let me say that research is great to get a jumping off point, but I don't let it limit my imagination. I like to put my own spin on things.
Tigris: Who is your loudest character?
Kris: For volume - I'd have to say warrior angel, Bradley in Perfection. I always picture him being similar to a Marine. For being a blowhard, the primary villain in the Eternally Three series - archdemon Vincorte.
Tigris: Which Character was the hardest to write? Why?
Kris: Clint - in Three to Play. His struggle with his past was really tough to write.
Tigris: What are you working on now and what can we expect to see from you in 2011?
Kris : As I mentioned before, I'm working on Primal Heat. It's an erotic shapeshifter book set in West Texas. Luke is a lone wolf, that lives outside his pack. He struggles with guilt about the death of his parents and little sister. Meagan is new to her family's legacy of witchcraft. As the two get tangled up together, Luke's darkness begins to lift as he is mesmerized by Meagan's honesty and kindness.
I also will be finishing up book 3 of my Eternally Three series, hopefully to come out in the fall.
Tigris: Favorite Holiday?
Kris: Halloween… no, Christmas… no Thanksgiving… no my birthday… ??? I love them all - even Ground Hog Day.
Tigris: If you could write from any location in the world where would that be and why?
Kris: A beach in Hawaii. Why? A beach. Hawaii. Do I need to say more?
Tigris: If your male hero’s were involved in the ultimate cage match, who would come out the victor?
Kris: Out of all my heroes in my book, I believe Jared in Perfection, though some of my other heroes would protest. Now, if book 3 of Eternally Three were done, then I would say David. He's an archangel and really can kick some major ass.
Tigris: Favorite Author?
Kris: There is just too many of them. I would put Lora Leigh, JR Ward, Shayla Black, Melissa Schroeder, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Eden Bradley, RG Alexander and Sophie Oak at the top of my list though.
Thanks Kris for taking the time to stop by!

What a great interview. Like you, I love every place I've lived. I tell people that I wouldn't live here if I didn't love it. I haven't read you as of yet but am wondering if the places you've lived/been to ever play a part in your writing?

Tracey -
I'm technically challenged, clearly. My response to Danelle was meant for you. Need more coffee this morning. Too many margaritas at Shayla Black's birthday party last night. LOL! Anyway - I'm glad you enjoyed Three to Play. Kris
