Tigris: How much research did you do before starting your Katherine “Kitty” Katt Series?
Gini: None. The story idea came from a dream, so I had something to go on. I do research along the way, as the story needs it. Otherwise, I just write. Doing research is fun and interesting, and can turn into a huge delay tactic, so I’m careful to only do just what I need and no more.
Tigris: What are you currently working on? Can we get some basic plot details?
Gini: I’m working on “Alien Diplomacy”, but no, no plot details. It’s Book 5 and Book 2 just released, so any details I would give would either be major spoilers or pretty confusing.
Tigris: What does a typical day of writing consist of?
Gini: Well, as I write this, I’m embroiled in Catfest 2010, so a typical day of writing is consisting of dealing with a lot of stressed out animals. But in terms of a regular routine, I do most of what I consider the work and home side in the mornings and early afternoons, I try to block out 2-6pm for writing, more home and work stuff, then more writing late at night.
Tigris: Are Aliens Real?
Gini: Do I believe life exists in the vast universe aside from on our planet? Absolutely. Do I think we have real outer space aliens here on Earth? Some days yes, most days no.
Tigris: Who would win between Optimus Prime and Skeletor? Wolverine and Daredevil?
Gini: Well, Skeletor would appear to win, but Optimus Prime, being both the good guy AND a Transformer, would totally win it in the end.
Wolverine over Daredevil. I love Daredevil, but he’s no match for Wolvie’s adamantium claws.
Tigris: How would a conversation go between Kitty and Lois Lane? What advice would they give one another?
Gini: Huh. Lois would probably tell Kitty to stay focused on her career. Kitty would probably tell Lois she was an idiot for not actually realizing Clark Kent and Superman were the same person. I think it would go downhill from there.
Tigris: Best Comic Series Ever? Why?
Gini: The X-Men. Because they define awesome while focusing on all sorts of social issues. And because they possess Wolverine.
Close runner up is The Tick. Because it’s the most hilarious satire of comics ever created.
Tigris: Favorite Author?
Gini: I honestly have a lot, but I’m going to go with the top ones only, ‘cause I’ve read ahead and this is a LONG interview.
Living: Terry Pratchett
Dead: Robert Benchley
Tigris: What character speaks the loudest in your head?
Gini: LOL, depends on the day. I can say honestly that it’s whatever characters I’m working with “right now”. But in terms of who yaps it up when I’m not concentrating, it’s a toss up between the first characters I ever wrote (different series) and Kitty and, these days, Chuckie. Martini tends to leave me alone unless I need him, but Chuckie’s still kinda pissed at me. For reasons anyone who’s read “Alien Tango” will understand.
