Nothing on earth can make this vampire fall in love . . .
After 499 years of existence, Connor Buchanan has arrived at an inescapable conclusion: he is a cold-hearted SOB. He's been watching his friends—those poor romantic fools—plummet off the cliff into love like a dazed herd of sheep. But not Connor. He knows that love leads to nothing but heartache.
Until Marielle . . .
She is an angel cast down from heaven for disobedience. Trapped in mortal form, she finds a protector in Connor, a Scottish vampire haunted by a dark past. Marielle hopes to heal his broken heart and earn her way back home, but suddenly she has these . . . feelings. This strange yet pleasant physical yearning—for a vampire! Is this the work of a demon luring her into hell, or has this angel found heavenly bliss?
A Scottish Vampire in kilt…..yum. Connor Buchanan has see and done it all, including having a midlife crisis. Hey a 499 year old vampire can have one, just don’t ask him about it….he will deny it. Connor wasn’t looking for love, didn’t want love. Afraid he was heading for hell; He pretty much just existed while all his friends fell in love, got married and had children. One night while searching for Casimir the leader of the Malcontents, That’s what they call the evil vampires who only drink blood from humans and not the synthetic stuff Connors Vampire friend Roman Draganesti Manufactures . He ended up at Mount Rushmore, where he found something he never expected.
Marielle, she is an angel who never seems to be able to follow orders. So after being stripped of her wings, she became earthbound. Oh and by the way….she is an angel of death and one touch from her will kill a human instantly. Bummer right? After being badly injured she is found by Connor, who is instantly drawn to her and protects her.
There are a lot of very funny moments throughout the book as Connor tries to teach Marielle what it’s like to be human. Like giving her chocolate for the first time, she did not know what she was missing.
She swallowed, and then gazed at the bar in wonder. “This is incredible. I’ve never tasted anything like this.” She took another bite and moaned, tilting her head back and closing her eyes. Bugger . She looked like she was going to climax.
*sighs* haven’t we all felt like that after we had some chocolate?
Another great moment was when some of Connor’s female vampire friends decide to teach her about men. They explained everything from the Three-Step Rule, you know the one. “At any given time, sex is only three steps away in a man’s thoughts.” To blow jobs. *blushes* YES I said it…..blow jobs.
In between the laughs the book gave me, I loved reading about Connor’s struggle to redeem himself, while doing everything he can to help this angel in need. If you have read Kerrelyn Sparks Love at Stake series you know this story was a long time coming and most definitely worth the wait.
